“The Last of Us” is back at last! The acclaimed HBO series, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, returned for its highly anticipated second season on April 13, picking up five years after the events of Season 1, with new episodes premiering on Sunday nights through the season finale on May 25. If you’re excited about the hit video game adaptation’s return, we’ve compiled some of the best action, drama, and post-apocalyptic projects to inspire you further!

“Mae’s House”

Casting is underway for “Mae’s House,” a short drama exploring loss. Talent, aged 7–50, is wanted for several roles, including the lead role of Holly, a strong yet tender-hearted woman carrying the emotional weight of her past and the recent loss of the woman who saved her as a teenager. Filming is scheduled for June 20–22 and 28–29 in Bowie, Maryland. Pay is $50–$400 per day with meals provided.

“Fervor”

Join the cast of “Fervor,” a student horror-drama short about a couple trapped in their apartment during the apocalypse. New York City-based actors, aged 8 and older, are wanted for various on-camera and voiceover roles. Some of the roles, including leads, will require the use of medium or heavy makeup and prosthetics. Production is also hiring multiple crew positions, including a director of photography. Talent will work in late July and/or early August in Manhattan. Pay is $20 per hour with food provided, plus compensation for any gear rental.

“Medea”

Join the cast of “Medea,” a short film following a young woman who must fight against her lust for revenge after giving up everything for one boy. Two actors, aged 18–30, are wanted for two principal roles, including Jason, Medea’s ex-husband. Filming will take place over two to three days in mid-to-late July in NYC. Pay is undisclosed by the production.

Untitled Vertical Sci-Fi Series

Three Los Angeles-based actors of color, aged 25–50, are wanted for supporting roles in a new post-apocalyptic sci-fi vertical series. Talent will work in Southern California, L.A., and Las Vegas with dates TBD. Pay is $100–$250 per day, with travel and meals covered.

“The Social Distance”

Join the cast of “The Social Distance,” a sci-fi YA drama feature film set during the summer of the COVID-19 lockdown where a science nerd and her boy-crazy best friend decide to build a spaceship to escape the quarantine before the summer ends. Actors, aged 18–80, are wanted for various roles, including the starring duo. Rehearsals will take place in San Rafael, California, followed by filming between June 29 and Aug. 9. Pay is $15 per hour for up to 24 hours a week with meals provided.

“An Absence of Illusion”

Casting is underway for “An Absence of Illusion,” a student film about two artists who discover surveillance bugs in their unsanctioned playhouse and must debate whether to continue staging their production of Tennessee Williams’ “The Glass Menagerie” or flee. Four Los Angeles-based actors, aged 18–35, are wanted for lead roles in the drama, which will film at UCLA on May 24–25. Stage/theatre experience is a plus. Pay is $150–$300 for two days of work with transportation and gas reimbursement provided.

“The Sleeper Awakes: A Morrowind Story” Fan Film

East Star Productions is seeking talent for “The Sleeper Awakes: A Morrowind Story,” an epic high fantasy short-film based on the video game “The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind” and set 15 years before the events of the game. U.K.-based actors, aged 18–60, are needed for lead and supporting roles, including Caius Coscades. Filming will take place in England with dates TBD. Pay is £150 per day for one or two days of work with travel, accommodation, and other expenses provided.

“Without a Cost”

Casting is currently in progress for “Without a Cost,” a buddy-action comedy film about two criminals trying to escape a dystopian world where the rich live in a large walled city and the desperate live under the rule of crime lords. Actors, aged 18 and older, are wanted for several roles, including the two lead roles of Jones and Rooney. Additionally, production is hiring multiple crew positions, including a cinematographer and an editor. Filming will take place between July and December in Austin, Texas. Pay is $15–20 per hour for the editor. All other roles will receive a profit share if picked up for streaming. Food/drinks and a gas stipend will be provided.

“Fight for the Bando”

Casting is underway for “Fight for the Bando,” a proof-of-concept short film for a TV series that follows two teenagers in the apocalypse fighting for a building to inhabit. Four actors, aged 15–21, are wanted for lead roles in the project. Additionally, production is hiring a fight choreographer and stunt coordinator. Rehearsals will take place in Montclair or Asbury Park, New Jersey, or NYC, followed by filming in late 2025 or early 2026 in North Jersey or Upstate New York. Pay is $150 per day with travel costs provided.
