Yeah, baby! Austin Powers may thaw to spy another day! It’s been nearly 25 years since Mike Myers last donned his iconic blue velvet suit, and according to the comedian, he’ll be pulling the getup out of storage. During his June 16 guest appearance on “Trevor Noah’s World Cup Watch Party,” a fan asked Myers if “Austin Powers 4” may still be on the horizon. Myers responded with a definite yes.

Though he offered no immediate details on production schedules or castings, major outlets are optimistic that this confirms the project is actively in the works. Read on for everything we know about the film’s development status so far.

What is “Austin Powers 4” about?

Myers hasn’t offered much insight into what the fourth film’s premise could be, but after reprising his role as Dr. Evil for Verizon's new ad—with Seth Green (Scott Evil), Mindy Sterling (Frau Farbissina), and Rob Lowe (Number Two) reviving their respective roles, too—it would be no surprise if the next installment focused on the notorious villain. After all, in 2007, Myers told IGN he had come up with “a fully conceived idea for a fourth” film told from Dr. Evil’s perspective, and we’d bet one million dollars that’s exactly what we’re getting! Just kidding, but it’s a safe bet it’s going to be groovy.

Who is in the cast of “Austin Powers 4”?

Myers, Green, Sterling, and Lowe already resurrected their characters for the Verizon commercial, so we’re pretty confident in our assumption that the group would jump at a chance to reunite with Myers on the big screen, too.

Michael York (Basil Exposition) and Clint Howard (Radar Operator) have also expressed interest in the idea of a fourth film. York told The Hollywood Reporter that he’s heard rumblings in the past. “And I hope it’s true because that [franchise] really works,” he shared. “Nobody knew at the beginning it would, but [Myers] did—and not once, but three times.”

Meanwhile, Howard told the outlet he’d return in a heartbeat. “I would step up and show up immediately,” Howard said. “The first ‘Austin Powers’ was just this little comedy, but I had a great time. I get asked about ‘Austin Powers’ all the time at pop conventions.”

Verne Troyer, who originated the role of Mini Me, Dr. Evil’s sidekick, in “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me,” passed away in 2018, so we will miss their dynamic should the new film focus on Dr. Evil, as predicted.

As for who might take on the leading lady role that Elizabeth Hurley (Vanessa Kensington), Heather Graham (Felicity Shagwell), and Beyoncé (Foxxy Cleopatra) so beautifully executed in the first three films is anyone’s guess. However, Redditors have been throwing names around for years, with stars like Lady Gaga, Margot Robbie, and Demi Moore—who served as a producer on every film thus far, by the way—as clear favorites for the part.

Who is developing “Austin Powers 4”?

Myers and Jay Roach collaborated on the Verizon ad, so it’s a good bet that the writer and director will team up for a fourth feature. We wouldn’t be surprised if Myers’ co-writer on the second and third films, Michael McCullers, was also part of the creative team on “Austin Powers 4.” After all, he co-wrote the script for another Myers sequel, “Shrek 5,” which is set to release in 2027. As for potential casting directors, John Papsidera cast the first film, while Jeanne McCarthy and Juel Bestrop cast the following two, so there’s no saying who’ll partner with the team this time around.

When will “Austin Powers 4” premiere?

Myers has been teasing “Austin Powers 4” for the better part of a decade now. As he told Entertainment Weekly in 2019, “We are hoping to do it, and we are working on making it a reality.” Given this, it’s important to take his latest confirmation with a grain of salt. While we hope a fourth film will be made sooner rather than later, it’s very early days.
