Netflix’s crown jewel “Stranger Things” was renewed for its highly-anticipated fifth and final season just over a year ago. And ever since, we’ve been a little lost in the Upside-Down waiting for production updates. Therefore, if you want to learn more about the upcoming season, you’ve come to the right place. Here’s everything we know about “Stranger Things” Season 5, including when to expect new casting opportunities.

All of the major players (or, more aptly, survivors) of the previous four seasons are returning for Season 5. The famous friend group that leads the series includes Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Finn Wolfhard (Mike), Noah Schnapp (Will), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin), Sadie Sink (Max), and Priah Ferguson (Erica).
The starring and recurring cast also includes Joe Keery (Steve), Maya Hawke (Robin), Natalia Dyer (Nancy), Charlie Heaton (Jonathan), Eduardo Franco (Argyle), David Harbour (Jim), Winona Ryder (Joyce), Bret Gelman (Murray), Tom Wlaschiha (Dmitri), and Jamie Campbell-Bower (Henry/One/Vecna).
While we aren’t sure when production will begin for “Stranger Things” Season 5, the casting team is no stranger to teaming up with Backstage to fill roles. Atlanta-based background casting director, Heather Taylor of Casting TaylorMade, used us to find talent for the past four seasons. Therefore, we will likely see some casting notices trickle in when production picks up.

Unfortunately, Netflix has been silent about the expected release of Season 5. According to Ross Duffer, one-half of the Duffer Brothers team, the writer’s room returned the first week of August 2022. In late September, the “Stranger Things” writers’ Twitter account shared a photo of their completed whiteboard grid, but other than a photo of the Episode 1 script posted in November (titled “The Crawl”), the production team has given further updates.
However, the stars of the series have been giving more clues. In a TikTok Live in January, Schnapp shared production is scheduled to begin in May. Other than the two-part fourth season, which had its first part debut in May, each season has either premiered in July or October. (Part two of Season 4 debuted in July, as well.) Whether Season 5 is released in one part or two, it’s likely it will follow that same path.
The real question about Season 5’s premiere date is the year: Will it be released in 2024 or 2025? In a recent interview with GQ, Wolfhard told the magazine of Season 5, “I will be 22 by the time it comes out….” Seventeen notes that if that is the case, Wolfhard won’t turn 22 until December 2024.
The “Stranger Things” universe continues to expand in the meanwhile. We already know that multiple spinoffs are in the works, and a new stage show, “Stranger Things: The First Shadow,” is expected to debut in late 2023 in London.
