“The Waterfront,” inspired by actual events, tells the tale of the flawed Buckley clan, who go to increasingly dangerous means to keep themselves and their fishing business afloat, per Tudum by Netflix. Harlan Buckley (McCallany), who loves his whiskey, built up the company through sometimes-illegal means in the ’80s but has stepped back since his two heart attacks. He’s left the business in the hands of his wife, Mae (Bello), and son, Cane (Jake Weary), who have made some foolish decisions out of desperation. For that reason, Harlan feels he has no choice but to take the reins of the business once more.
“The Waterfront” doesn’t have a release date just yet, but it is expected to premiere this year.
Besides McCallany, Bello, and Weary, the stacked cast of “The Waterfront” includes, per Deadline, Melissa Benoist as Bree Buckley, who, like her father, has let alcohol ruin her future; Dave Annable as Wes Larsen, a developer whose interest in Mae is more than professional; and Topher Grace as Grady, who’s trying to get in business with the Buckleys. The series is created by Kevin Williamson, who is responsible for co-creating “Dawson’s Creek” and “The Vampire Diaries.” Ben Fast from Outerbanks Entertainment is an executive producer and Marcos Siega directs the first two episodes. The casting department currently has two names, including Kimberly Wistedt as the local casting director.
