Hulu and ABC Entertainment are continuing to make the biggest series from their smallest packages. After an adaptation of “Little Fires Everywhere,” the streamer has now given the go-ahead to a “Tiny Beautiful Things” adaptation with Kathryn Hahn set to star. Want to learn more about this new project and potential casting opportunities? We’ve got the scoop below.
“Tiny Beautiful Things” Gets Greenlit
Hulu and ABC Entertainment have ordered a half-hour series adaptation of the New York Times bestseller “Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar.” According to Variety, the announcement came in tandem with the lead casting of Kathryn Hahn, who has been tapped to star in the series. It’s the latest in a series of recent major roles for Hahn, a recent Emmy nominee for “WandaVision” as well as one of the stars of the upcoming “Knives Out 2.”
Hulu’s “Tiny Beautiful Things” is based on the bestseller by Cheryl Strayed and will follow Hahn as a woman “who reluctantly becomes Dear Sugar, an anonymous [and] revered advice columnist when her own life is falling apart.” Strayed’s collection is compiled from essays from her “Dear Sugar” advice column at The Rumpus.
Strayed, Laura Dern’s Jaywalker Pictures, and Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine will executive produce. Previously, Hello Sunshine and ABC Entertainment have collaborated on its miniseries adaptation of “Little Fires Everywhere” in which Witherspoon starred. Witherspoon, Dern, and Strayed have also previously worked together on the film adaptation of Strayed’s memoir “Wild.”
Also following Witherspoon and Hulu/ABC will be “Little Fires Everywhere” creator and writer Liz Tigelaar, who will write and showrun the new adaptation. This marks the second adaptation of “Tiny Beautiful Things” after the recent stage show adaptation of the book written by and starring “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” writer and star Nia Vardalos.
A casting director for “Tiny Beautiful Things” hasn’t been announced yet, but David Rubin, who ran the casting team behind “Little Fires Everywhere,” “Wild,” and “Big Little Lies,” is the obvious choice and guess. For those who want to learn how to get cast in the next book adaptation, Rubin gave us the rundown in an exclusive interview here. He also spoke to us about the casting process for Strayed’s “Wild” here.
