Apple TV+ is working on a limited series inspired by the 2006 rom-com “The Holiday.”
According to Deadline, the reboot will be loosely based on the movie, introducing new characters to the story and putting a new creative team behind the scenes. The original film, which starred Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, and Jack Black, has become a cult holiday season favorite for many fans and continues to capture viewers with its inspiring set design and feel-good story.
In 2022, rumors of a sequel to “The Holiday” were dismissed by Nancy Meyers, who wrote, directed, and produced the 2006 blockbuster. Per Deadline, the original cast won’t be reprising their roles for the Apple TV+ limited series, nor is Meyers involved in the project this time around. But there’s still good news for those interested in the remake: Casting is currently underway for the two lead actresses, and the series will officially move forward once they’re on board. Here’s everything else we know about “The Holiday” limited series as of now.
JUMP TO
In the 2006 film, two women on opposite sides of the world agree to swap homes for Christmas through a house exchange website, each hoping for a change of scenery and an escape from their recent heartbreaks. Amanda (Diaz) is a successful movie executive in Los Angeles who trades places for two weeks with Iris (Winslet), a wedding columnist living in a quaint English cottage. Following their troubled romances, both women vow to avoid love, but fate has other plans. Amanda and Iris soon find unexpected romances in their new cities and are faced with the dilemma of what to do when the holidays are over and real life resumes.
Krissie Ducker (“Sweetpea,” “Killing Eve”) is the writer and executive producer in partnership with London-based Left Bank Pictures, the production company behind “The Crown” and “Outlander.” Actor and comedian Rob Delaney (“Catastrophe”) is confirmed as a consultant for the project. As for Meyers, she reportedly only learned of the limited series via social media, sharing on Instagram that the announcement was “news” to her.
As reported by Deadline, offers have been sent to two well-known actresses who are being eyed to play the lead characters.
