As the Oscars near, logistical preparations are underway in Los Angeles for the red carpet hubbub. The Academy along with the city of L.A. has released details of a series of road and sidewalk closures will could not only influence foot traffic among tourists but also slow down the commute times of actors and industry workers gigging, side hustling, or auditioning. Below, Backstage reviews what L.A. actors can expect for road closures this week.
Currently, Hollywood Boulevard has been shut down for the red carpet roll out—and it will remain closed until three days after the ceremony. Substantial closures will kick into gear on Friday, Feb. 22 with Hawthorn Avenue closing between Highland Avenue and Orange Drive until Monday.
On the big day, Sunday, Feb. 24, downtown Tinseltown will be restricted even further, and bus routes will be rerouted. Hollywood Boulevard, Highland, and Orange will extend their closures to a larger radius and security measures will be vamped up as the famous make their way towards the Dolby Theatre where the 91st Academy Awards will be held.
