Comedian Leanne Morgan (“You’re Cordially Invited”) is returning to Netflix this summer in a new self-titled sitcom, “Leanne,” loosely inspired by her own life. The 16-episode series comes on the heels of Morgan’s 2023 stand-up special, “Leanne Morgan: I’m Every Woman,” in which she charmed viewers with stories about her small-town upbringing, lessons in parenting, and other personal anecdotes. Morgan co-created the new series with Chuck Lorre (“The Big Bang Theory,” “Two and a Half Men”), so it’s safe to say that viewers can expect plenty of laughs and quippy lines from the show.

Ahead of the sitcom’s premiere on July 31, here’s what to know about “Leanne,” including casting details and more.

What is “Leanne” about?

After 33 years of marriage, Leanne’s (Morgan) husband leaves her for another woman. She faces the task of rebuilding her life while juggling menopause and becoming a grandmother, relying on her family and her sense of humor to get her through.

Creating “Leanne” is a longtime dream for Morgan, who told Netflix that she can’t believe it finally happened. “When I started comedy 25 years ago, my goal was to be a part of a sitcom,” she said. “It just goes to show you it’s never too late, and dreams do come true. I’m a grandmama from Tennessee, and now I have a TV show with Chuck Lorre and Netflix. What in the world?!”
