Audio drama Wessex Whispers is a commission from Calling The Shots and the BBC as part of their New Creatives development programme, with the finished piece hosted on BBC Sounds early next year. Following a woman who detaches from the present and is trapped in the past, this poetic journey explores grief, memory and imagination. Scarlett is female, playing age 25–35, and any ethnicity, with a south-west accent. She’s emotionally intense and headstrong, but dislocated from reality. Amy is female, playing age 25–35, and any ethnicity. She’s blunt, up for a challenge, and warm-hearted. Dad is male, playing age 35–45, and any ethnicity. The project records in early January 2021 in Southampton and the team are seeking voice actors based in the south-west but open to performers nationwide. Short sci-fi film casting Black male and females
A team at Arts University Bournemouth are casting short sci-fi film Stargazer, following an estranged family on a journey through space. Lead role Eden is male, playing age 25–35, and Black. Working-class and insecure, he’s out of his comfort zone. Naomi is female, playing age 35–45, and Black. A strong person, she’s the mother of a teenager, working through layers of resentment to get to her brother Eden. Caleb is male, playing age 16–21, and Black. He’s only ever known space, and is looking for a role model as he stands on the brink of becoming a young man. The project has costume fittings and makeup tests for one day in January 2021, rehearsals in early February and shoots 20–24 February in Bournemouth. ADR or voiceovers will be in late February or early March. Roles are paid £104 per day, plus travel, accommodation, and food. The team are casting performers based anywhere in the UK. New play I & The Village by Darren Donohue is casting for a run at The Bread and Roses, London. Following three African women seeking asylum in Ireland, the show explores the dire consequences of confinement. Keicha is female, playing age 30–40, and Black. From Nigeria, she’s strong-willed and fiercely determined, but can appear vulnerable. Jeta is female, playing age 30–40, and Black. From Zimbabwe, she’s intelligent, articulate, highly intuitive, and compassionate. Hannah is female, playing ages 18–26, and Black. She’s young, quick-tempered, sharp-witted, and streetwise. Carl is male, playing age 30–40, and white, with an Irish accent. He’s friendly and good-natured, with a lively sense of humour. Rehearsals begin in January 2021 ahead of shows from 2–13 March. Short drama Baile is a production from graduating filmmakers at Arts University Bournemouth. Set in 1950s Ireland, it follows a mother who speaks out after her daughter is beaten by a teacher, exploring how and when we challenge authority. Lead Emer is female, playing age 35–45, and of white Irish accent. A housewife, she has strong values and is deeply religious, expressing her love by seeing everyone is looked after. Donal is male, playing age 35–45, and white with an Irish accent. A manual labourer, he’s short with tidy hair, stoical, and respectful of authority. Father Ryan is male, playing age 40–65, and white with an Irish accent. A headmaster, he has a comfortable life he’s committed to protecting. Two further roles, 40–60, are available. The project rehearses January to February 2021, shooting mid or late February in Bournemouth. Roles are paid professionally and the team are seeking performers based anywhere in the UK.
