In April, Netflix officially began production on “Scooby-Doo: Origins” in Atlanta. This live-action series reimagines the classic Hanna-Barbera characters Daphne, Shaggy, Velma, Fred, and Scooby-Doo, and brings the mystery-solving gang back to its roots. Executive produced by Greg Berlanti and developed by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg of Midnight Radio, the series’ eight episodes will continue a legacy that began in 1969.

Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”

Emmy-winning casting director John Papsidera is bringing his elite eye for finding talent to Netflix’s “Scooby-Doo” series. Best known for his extensive collaborations across Taylor Sheridan’s series and Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster films, Papsidera boasts an elite track record that also includes leading the casting efforts for high-profile projects such as Netflix’s “Wednesday,” Prime Video’s “Fallout,” and James Gunn’s “Superman” films.
Papisdera shared some insight into the fluid nature of the show’s casting process, telling us, “There were a lot of actors that weren’t necessarily right for Shaggy but could have been right for Fred. So we moved them from one character to the other, going, ‘Well, he’s not that, but maybe he’s that.’ ”
Filming for the live-action “Scooby-Doo” series began in April and will continue through September across the metro Atlanta area, primarily at Cinespace Film Studios and Cinelease Studios in Conyers, Georgia. The production is also shooting on-location summer camp scenes in nearby Rutledge, Georgia, using the working title “Talbot Pines,” per outlets.
