Lin-Manuel Miranda Joins “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.”

The road to the Underworld continues to be paved for Disney+’s “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” led by Walker Scobell in the titular role. According to Deadline, “Hamilton” creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda is the latest to join the cast of the series adaptation. He is playing Hermes, the trickster messenger god who hesitates to help Percy and his friends on their quest.

Since the success of “Hamilton,” Miranda is now one of the most sought-after composers, actors, and directors in the business. His include the film adaptation of his “In the Heights,” “tick, tick… BOOM!,” ''Moana,” “Encanto,” “His Dark Materials,” and more.

We’ve covered prior casting earlier this year, first with the announcement of Aryan Simhadri and Leah Jeffries and then the casting of Dior Goodjohn, Olivea Morton, and Charlie Bushnell. Since then, several other guest stars have been announced, including Megan Mullally, Virginia Kull, Glynn Turman, Jason Mantzoukas, Timm Sharp, Adam Copeland, Suzanne Cryer, and Jessica Parker Kennedy.

As we’ve previously reported, before its official go-ahead, the series had long been rumored to be in development. However, the series was officially approved in February 2022, with Rick Riordan announcing the news on Disney+’s YouTube channel.

Riordan and Jon Steinberg (“The Old Man”) wrote the series pilot with James Bobin directing. Steinberg and his “Black Sails” collaborator Dan Shotz are the co-showrunners.

“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is currently in production in Vancouver with Denise Chamian as the series’ casting director. So, while there aren’t any casting notices at the moment, it’s a good idea to keep our roundup of Disney gigs bookmarked for future opportunities. The new series is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2024, with the exact date to be announced later.
