It’s time for one last summer with Belly Conklin! The hit Prime Video series “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” starring Lola Tung, Gavin Casalegno, and Christopher Briney, is back for its third and final season this July 16. If you’re excited to spend the season out in Cousins, we’ve rounded up some of the best coming-of-age, teen, and romance projects looking for talent now!

“The Boy With His Heart In His Hands”

Casting is underway for “The Boy With His Heart In His Hands,” a proof-of-concept coming-of-age short film for a feature, aimed at an A24 or Neon theatrical release that follows a 16-year-old runaway named Samson, who flees his troubled home life to live with his older cousin on a Missouri ranch. Los Angeles-based Black actors, aged 8–50, are wanted for lead and supporting roles, including the starring role of Samson. Filming will begin in November in L.A. Pay is $241 per day for up to four days of work.

“It Is Very Complicated”

Join the cast of “It Is Very Complicated,” a short film inspired by a girl trying to figure out when and how to lose her virginity. L.A.-based actors, aged 18 and older, are wanted for various roles, including the lead role of Kansas. Production is also hiring crew roles, including sound, hair/makeup, and more specialties. Filming is scheduled for July 26–27. Pay is $50–$350.

“Sophomore Year, 2020”

Red Road Films is seeking talent for “Sophomore Year, 2020,” a micro-budget indie coming-of-age dramedy set during the COVID-19 lockdowns and following a group of college students navigating a reckless and emotionally charged summer filled with parties, hookups, and self-discovery in search of connection and meaning. A male actor, age 22–26, is wanted to play the role of Julian, a charismatic recent grad and one of the main character's recent flings. Scenes will contain implied nudity and sexual content. Production is also hiring two crew roles: a director of photography and a sound operator. Auditions will begin virtually on May 19, followed by final auditions during the week of June 6. Filming is scheduled for June 15–Aug. 1 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Pay is $100–$200 for the day player acting role, $500–$1,000 for the sound operator, and $2,000–$3,000 for the DP.

“Children at Play”

Casting is underway for “Children at Play,” a coming-of-age film about a group of friends traveling through L.A. and Covina to deliver a gift to one of their crushes. Young male actors, aged 13–17, are wanted for lead and supporting roles. Filming will take place in July in Hollywood and Covina. Pay is $50 per day for three to five days of filming with travel and meals provided.

“Maybe Next Time”

Neue Americana is seeking talent for “Maybe Next Time,” a queer, coming-of-age romance that takes a surrealist, dreamy interpretation of the trials and tribulations of first love. Two Florida-based female or nonbinary actors of color, aged 18–25, are wanted to play the protagonist Nat, and her love interest, Lilah. Talent must be able to roller skate at at least a basic level. Filming will take place in June through August in Jacksonville, Florida. Pay is $100 for the supporting role and $150 for the lead role.

“This Joke’s On You”

Stoop Films & Production is casting actors for “This Joke’s On You,” a bold, heartwarming, and hilarious romantic comedy that explores modern relationships, social media fame, and the consequences of turning love into content as a rising stand-up comic, Tammi Carter, roasts her boyfriend in a viral bit that causes her career to skyrocket but their relationship to unravel. New York City-based actors, aged 12–75, are wanted for several lead and supporting roles in the film, including Tammi. Strong comedic timing, including a stand-up or improv background, is required for talent playing Tammi and multiple other roles. Production is also hiring multiple crew positions, including a sound operator and editor, and is also seeking content creators for digital hype and more. Talent will work on Oct. 13–24 in Brooklyn and Queens. Pay is $250 per day with meals, credit, and footage provided, plus future appearance rates TBD.

“Dropping In”

Join the cast of “Dropping In,” a short teen/YA sports-comedy film exploring the world of non-traditional, gender-expansive skateboarders at an overnight summer camp. A female or nonbinary actor, age 13–15, is wanted to play the protagonist, Molly. Some skateboarding skills are required. Talent will work on Aug. 14–18 in Sequoia National Park in Miramonte, California. Pay is $150–$250 per filming day for three days of work. Travel and accommodations will be provided.

“The Sweet Story”

The Sweet Story,” a coming-of-age feature film, is seeking two actors of color, aged 18–25, to play the starring role of Arianna and her love interest, the football player Q. The actor playing Q will have to be able to play football. Filming will take place in May or June in Atlanta, Georgia. Pay is $150–$900 for up to 10 days of work.

“Lifer”

Casting is underway for “Lifer,” a romantic coming-of-age story about a bulimic gymnast who ends up in a children’s psychiatric ward after relapsing, exploring themes of queerness, mental health, self-harm, healing, and self-discovery. Young talent, aged 8–16, is wanted to play other patients at the hospital in supporting roles. Two of the roles will require either selective mutism or a lisp/speech impediment and ADHD/autism. Filming will begin in late 2025 or early to mid-2026 in and around New York. Pay is $200–$500 per day for a planned 20 days of work.
