Television doesn’t sleep. Backstage is breaking down, month by month, the buzzy shows and performances that merit attention from awards voters and couch potatoes in the ever-growing landscape of the small screen.

Thanksgiving month on the small screen mostly means one thing: a huge glut of flash-in-the-pan Christmas movies. Fortunately, with so many streamers churning out content these days, November 2021 also features plenty of new series to fall into. Read on for the latest dish on new genre shows, including Netflix’s “Cowboy Bebop” and Disney+’s “Hawkeye,” plus a new Mindy Kaling comedy on HBO Max and the return of Showtime’s “Dexter.”

“Dexter: New Blood”
“I may be a monster, but I’m an evolving monster.” Everyone’s favorite good-boy-serial-killer Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is back after a 10-year hiatus in this follow-up series, premiering Nov. 27 on Showtime. The sequel sees Dexter trying to live incognito in an upstate New York town, having long ago hung up his cleaver. But as you can probably guess, the past catches up with him when a mysterious series of murders starts in town.

“The Shrink Next Door”
Your comedy dream cast is here in this new miniseries from Georgia Pritchett and Michael Showalter, premiering Nov. 12 on Apple TV+. Will Ferrell stars as Martin, a schlub who falls under the spell of Paul Rudd’s Dr. Herschkopf, a charismatic psychologist with nefarious intentions. The dark comedy, based on the podcast of the same name about a true story, also stars the serially beloved Casey Wilson and Kathryn Hahn.

“The Sex Lives of College Girls”
Women everywhere can relive their ignominious college years with this delicious-looking new series from Mindy Kaling. Set at a fictional Vermont university, the comedy follows four 18-year-old roomies (Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, Reneé Rapp, and Alyah Chanelle Scott) stumbling their way through their freshman year—with all the requisite hookups and disasters. The show premieres Nov. 18 on HBO Max.

“Cowboy Bebop”
Sci-fi series are a dime a dozen these days, but none of them looks as ridiculously cool as “Cowboy Bebop,” André Nemec’s live-action adaptation of the popular ’90s anime. Sporting a ferocious hairdo, John Cho stars as Spike Spiegel, a bounty hunter in 2071 who teams up with Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir) and Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda) to track down criminals across the solar system. The jazz-inflected action thriller hits Netflix on Nov. 19.

“Hawkeye”
Marvel fans are living high on the small screen these days with Disney+’s steady rollout of MCU-adjacent series. The latest sees Avengers archer Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), taking center stage, along with MCU newcomer Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, aka...Hawkeye. Based on Matt Fraction and David Aja’s cult classic comic book run, Jonathan Igla’s series sees the non-superpowered superhero duo teaming up in New York City circa Christmas to fight baddies from Clint’s past. (Did we mention there’s also a really cute golden retriever?) The show kicks off Nov. 24.
