Joshua Aponte used Backstage to get cast in the play “Latin Lives,” a piece he connected with profoundly.

The role is his duty.
“ ‘Latin Lives’ is a theater piece addressing the various facets of Latino culture. I felt so connected to the piece, being Latino. And in today’s political climate, I feel Latinos need more productions like this one. It’s almost like my duty to bring this show to life.”

It’s been a joy.
“[I found the project while I was doing] my usual morning, afternoon, and night routine: scrolling through Backstage castings and applying for each project I can possibly fulfill. I will never forget the amount of joy we had playing with the scenes [in the audition].”

‘Make the best of both worlds.’
“I currently reside in Connecticut. Essentially, I’m tapping into the New York market, but also looking at opportunities locally. I am grateful that I am close enough to the city, where there is an abundance of projects. My advice for anyone in a similar situation is to make the best of both worlds.”

Backstage bridges the gap.
“Not having representation requires a great amount of searching for notices on my part, and Backstage is really a great tool for actors like myself looking for every opportunity to audition, perform, and connect.”

Don’t forget the fun.
“Have fun [when using Backstage]! Enjoy the searching, auditioning, applying, and practicing of where you are currently in your career. Backstage is part of my life every single day. It is one of the most consuming factors of my being as an actor, which makes it even more essential to enjoy the process.”

Backstage builds community.
“My community has grown so much larger because of Backstage. There are many times when fellow actors are seen at various auditions, and we all understand the grind. Not to mention all the friendships from working with many talented casts. That alone has been such a rewarding experience.”
