This month, Apple TV+ announced it’s set to adapt Jennette McCurdy’s bestselling memoir “I’m Glad My Mom Died” into a 10-episode series. The dramedy will be written and executive produced by McCurdy and Ari Katcher (“Ramy,” “The Carmichael Show”), who will also serve as co-showrunners.
Published in August 2022, McCurdy’s book details the tumultuous and abusive relationship she had with her mother, Debra, as she grew up working as an actor in Hollywood. Debra McCurdy died of cancer in 2013. Jennifer Aniston, who also stars on Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show,” is the first cast member to join the adaptation; she will portray Debra.

McCurdy’s memoir is an extension of her one-woman show of the same name. In the book, she recounts the mental and emotional abuse she suffered throughout her childhood as her mother manipulated her to behave as she saw fit. After small roles on shows like “Malcolm in the Middle” and “Judging Amy,” McCurdy scored her breakout role as Sam Puckett on the hit Nickelodeon series “iCarly” in 2007. The series adaptation will serve as a dramatization of McCurdy’s difficult relationship with her mother, Debra.
Although the streamer announced that Aniston signed on to play McCurdy’s mom, there’s no CD attached to the adaptation just yet. However, Aniston and Sharon Horgan, both of whom will executive produce, have worked with Apple TV+ in the past—Aniston on “The Morning Show” and Horgan on her black comedy series “Bad Sisters.”
We would not be surprised if Victoria Thomas, who cast “The Morning Show,” or Lucy Amos and Nina Gold, who cast “Bad Sisters,” join this project, too.
