Netflix’s crime comedy “A Man on the Inside” returns for its second season on Nov. 20, following last year’s highly praised debut that earned Golden Globe and SAG Award nominations for its lead, Ted Danson. Created by Michael Schur, the series also stars Stephanie Beatriz (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”), Mary Elizabeth Ellis (“Santa Clarita Diet”), and Lilah Richcreek Estrada (“Chicago Med”). Schur and Danson previously collaborated on NBC’s “The Good Place.”

Inspired by Maite Alberdi’s Academy Award–nominated 2020 documentary “The Mole Agent,” “A Man on the Inside” follows widower Charles Nieuwendyk (Danson), a retired college professor–turned–amateur private investigator. This unexpected career pivot comes when Charles answers a newspaper ad seeking someone to pose as a resident of a retirement home in an effort to catch a necklace thief. Over the first season, Charles gets to know the residents while also finding closure following the death of his wife, who had Alzheimer’s disease.
With his first assignment in the rearview, the next installment will see Charles go undercover as a professor at Wheeler College in his mission to expose the person blackmailing school president Jack Beringer (Max Greenfield).
