What is “English Teacher” about?

Set in a suburb of Austin, Texas, FX’s “English Teacher” follows Mr. Evan Marquez (Alvarez), an openly gay high school English teacher who often clashes with parents and faculty who don’t support his view of the world. In the pilot, Evan comes under investigation after a parent accuses him of kissing his ex-boyfriend in front of the kids. But, with gym teacher Markie Hillridge (Sean Patton) on his side, Evan escapes formal repercussions while promising to refrain from dating any faculty members. Evan’s promise soon becomes difficult to keep, however, when a new teacher, Harry (Langston Kerman), joins the staff at Morrison-Hensley High School.
