On May 8, quintessential young-adult author Judy Blume’s acclaimed book “Forever” came to life in a Netflix adaptation. Starring Lovie Simone and Michael Cooper Jr., the series takes its inspiration from Blume’s 1975 novel while updating the story for a modern audience. “Forever” is showrunner–executive producer Mara Brock Akil’s (“Girlfriends,” “Being Mary Jane”) first show for the streamer, with which she has an overall deal. Blume also serves as an executive producer alongside Regina King, Susie Fitzgerald, and others.
