Based on Carl Hiaasen’s 1987 novel, “Double Whammy,” ABC’s “RJ Decker” will soon join the network’s Tuesday night lineup, debuting March 3. From Rob Doherty, who also created “Elementary,” the series stars Scott Speedman in the titular role alongside Kevin Rankin (Aloysius “Wish” Aiken), Adelaide Clemens (Catherine Delacroix), and Bevin Bru (Melody “Mel” Abreu). Like the procedurals that’ll precede it each week, “Will Trent” and “High Potential,” “RJ Decker” blends the crime drama format with humor in a way that’s proven hotly successful for ABC in recent years. It’s no wonder the pilot (and Speedman’s lauded performance) earned the show a series order shortly after. Here’s everything you need to know about the new series.

What is “RJ Decker” about?

Set in South Florida (but filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina), ABC’s new procedural “RJ Decker” follows the titular character (Speedman), who’s described as a disgraced newspaper photographer and ex-con. With his criminal past following him like a dark cloud, RJ starts over as a private investigator, taking on unusual cases in this quirky procedural drama. RJ finds allies in his journalist ex and her wife, a police detective. But when another woman from his past returns, RJ must proceed with caution for fear that she could undo all the progress he’s made rebuilding his life.
