Ready for ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Movie? Apply to These Gigs

Belly and Conrad are making it official! Back in the fall, Prime Video gave the greenlight to a film continuation of its hit coming-of-age romance series “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” following the show’s third and final season. Now, stars Lola Tung, Gavin Casalegno, and Christopher Briney are ready to continue their spring fling, with filming set to begin on April 27. For more life and love stories to keep you busy until we’re officially back with Belly and the boys, we’ve rounded up some of the best coming-of-age, teen, and romance projects looking for talent now. 

“Boyfriends” 

Casting is underway for “Boyfriends,” a new film for a major streaming service that follows two high school boys who fall in love before they know what to do with it. Nationwide actors, aged 18–60, are wanted for several roles in the film, including Ed, the co-lead. Filming is scheduled for May and June in Kentucky. Pay is undisclosed by the production.

“Summer Thing” 

Casting is underway for “Summer Thing,” a short film about the thriller of first love and summer love, and following Aurora, who, on her last day in Florida, is trying to savor every moment with a girl she was never supposed to fall in love with. A Latina actor, age 18–22, is sought for one of the two lead roles. Filming is scheduled for this spring, dates TBD. Pay is $300 for three days of work.

“I Love Us” 

Join the cast of “I Love Us,” a quiet, character-driven feature about the slow fracture of a friend group navigating the end of adolescence during one last summer together. Actors, aged 18–52, are wanted for lead and supporting roles. Auditions will be held by appointment on May 5 in Spokane, Washington, or remotely. Rehearsals begin in May, followed by filming on July 15–21 in Spokane, with remote options for out-of-state talent. Pay is $1,000 with meals provided.

“Finding Happiness” 

Join the cast of “Finding Happiness,” a short romantic comedy-drama film following a high schooler who, after experiencing a tragic loss in the family, transfers to a new school to finish out her education, where she finds two amazing best friends, mean girls, and love. Talent local to Eastern Pennsylvania, aged 25–55, is wanted for various supporting, day player, and background roles. Production is also hiring a production assistant. Filming is scheduled for May 26–June 1 in Allentown, June 7 in Philadelphia, and June 10 in Lahaska and Hatfield. Pay is $900 for the supporting role and a profit share for the day player role. All other roles are unpaid.

“Peanut Butter” 

Peanut Butter,” a coming-of-age film, is casting a New Orleans-based male or nonbinary actor, age 11–13, for the lead role of Jamie, a mixed-race boy navigating the turbulence of early adolescence. Talent will work in September in New Orleans. Pay is $1,514 per week for three weeks of work.

“Having a Blast” 

Having a Blast,” a coming-of-age film set in 1995, is seeking actors, aged 10–78, for various roles in the film, including the lead role of Jack. Filming will begin before the end of summer through the next year in New York. Pay is $100 per day for up to 48 days of work.

“Celestial” 

Little Man Films is currently casting “Celestial,” a cosmic coming-of-age story following a grieving teenager who is chosen by a mysterious cosmic entity and given the impossible task of creating the entire universe. Talent, aged 17–50, is wanted for several roles, including the lead role of Vaughn. Rehearsals will take place over Zoom, followed by principal photography this September in Lake Orion, Michigan. Pay is $200–$250 per day for up to 22 days of work with travel reimbursement and expenses provided.

“Quarters” 

Join the cast of “Quarters,” a raunchy, dark-comedy, coming-of-age film following a timid teenage boy who struggles with being the only Jewish kid at his rural New Jersey high school, but optimism begins to brew when a new girl moves to town. A white male actor in the Tri-State area, age 15–25, is wanted to play the starring role of Max. Talent must be comfortable with fake blood/gore and a comical makeout/kissing scene. Filming will take place between June 12 and 19 in and around Madison, New Jersey. Pay is $210 per day with meals provided.

“Blue Dream (of Love and Peace)” 

Narradora Studios is now seeking talent for “Blue Dream (of Love and Peace),” an indie feature film following Charlie and Miles, who, on their last night as eighth graders, chase girls, trouble, and each other through a summer night in New York City. Talent, aged 12–60, is sought for several roles, including the starring duo. Rehearsals and fittings will be held in June, followed by filming in July in and around NYC. Pay is $100 per day for fittings and $200 per day for filming for up to 20 days of work with copy, credit, and meals provided.
