Welcome to One Shot With HBO, a pop-up video series that takes a closer look at HBO’s award contenders.
HBO’s hit drama “Euphoria,” from creator Sam Levinson, is currently nominated six times at the upcoming 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards. One of those nominations recognizes its leading performance, a star turn from Zendaya that demonstrates the young actor’s talent and charisma to stunning effect.
The season’s third episode, “Made You Look,” finds Zendaya’s Rue, a recovering drug addict trying to make it through high school, confronting and apologizing to her best friend Jules (played by Hunter Schafer). Struggling to make eye contact and choking on tears, Rue reveals a raw vulnerability that makes it clear she’s carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. As portrayed by Zendaya, it’s a heartbreaking scene that channels a young generation’s anxiety and loneliness.
