Greenlit means a project is officially a go, so all you have to do is follow these leads to stay up to date. You never know where you’ll find an opportunity to land an audition!

“Moulin Rouge! The Musical”
France meets New York this summer! The highly-anticipated adaptation of Baz Luhrmann’s “Moulin Rouge!” is officially coming to Broadway, as of this morning. The show—starring Danny Burstein, Karen Olivo, Aaron Tveit, and others—will make its home at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on June 28, 2019 with an opening night set for July 25. This follows its acclaimed pre-Broadway premiere at Boston’s Colonial Theatre. As of now, all the stars and ensemble members of that production are expected to transfer, but in case of any changes, Roundabout Theatre’s Jim Carnahan & Stephen Kopel were in charge of casting the Boston run and that should be the case for NYC as well.

“West Side Story”
Here’s the most beautiful sound you’ve ever heard: “West Side Story” is searching nationwide for ensemble dancers! The forthcoming 2020 revival of the classic Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim musical will be holding an open call for contemporary dancers on Dec. 8. Directed by Ivo van Hove with choreography by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, this production will be the first of major New York productions to feature new choreography, as opposed to the original Jerome Robbins steps. Prospective candidates can email WSSRevivalCasting@gmail.com for further information and also be sure to keep an eye on Backstage for casting opportunities as the audition dates near!

“Supergirl”
Jon Cryer will reportedly be making his return to television with a major role. The Emmy winner will recur on the CW superhero drama “Supergirl” as the classic villain Lex Luthor. He’s scheduled to make his first appearance in the current season’s 15th episode, air date TBD. This will be the first time Cryer has had a regular role in a series since “Two and a Half Men” ended in 2015. Since then, he’s had guest roles in “NCIS,” “Will & Grace,” and others, as well as feature films such as the recently-completed “Big Time Adolescence.” As with most Greg Berlanti productions, David Rapaport and Lyndsey Baldasare are in charge of the casting out of Los Angeles and the show films in Vancouver.

“The Bone Collector”
NBC is adding another big drama to its mix. A series based on the “The Bone Collector,” starring Angelina Jolie and Denzel Washington (and originally the book series by Jeffery Deaver) is currently in development at the network. “S.W.A.T.” and “Justified” writing team VJ Boyd and Mark Bianculli have created and written the story, which follows Lincoln Rhyme, a retired genius forensic criminologist left paralyzed after an accident on the job; and Amelia Sachs, an ambitious, young detective he pairs up with to take down the country’s most dangerous criminals. Both of Boyd and Bianculli’s series have used different casting directors and have been on different networks, plus the script will still have a long development life before we see it on air so it will be a while until we see news on that front.

“Vigilante”
According to Deadline, Aisha Tyler has been tapped to direct Irwin Winkler and Jose Ruisanchez’s “Vigilante,” a female-themed thriller. The piece is being described a “#MeToo-era thriller” that follows a young woman who, after a brutal attack, channels her anger and grief into protecting others. Better known on the acting side, this isn’t Tyler’s first foray into directing: her feature directorial debut, “AXIS,” an independent psychological thriller, received critical acclaim. No casting has been completed on the project yet, so make sure to keep your eyes on it for opportunities.
