Netflix’s animated show “Splinter Cell: Deathwatch” premieres Oct. 14, bringing the world established in “Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell” video game series to the streaming service. Created by Ubisoft in 2002, the award-winning games were followed by a series of tie-in novels, written by Raymond Benson under the pseudonym David Michaels, about the protagonist, black-ops agent Sam Fisher. Now, the animated series will see Liev Schreiber take on the voice of Sam, as the show explores the former Fourth Echelon agent’s whereabouts in the years since the video game story concluded. Directed by Guillaume Dousse and Félicien Colmet-Daage, the series also boasts the writing talents of showrunner and “John Wick” creator Derek Kolstad, ensuring that “Splinter Cell: Deathwatch” will be action-packed. In “Splinter Cell: Deathwatch,” fans of the video games will reconnect with Sam, who has since retired from Fourth Echelon, having handed the reins to Anna “Grim” Grímsdóttir (Janet Varney) years ago. Yet, while the two haven’t spoken in some time, Sam finds himself pulled back into the fold when mentions of his former ally turned nemesis, Douglas Shetland, reemerge, despite the fact that he died at the end of the video game’s storyline. (Spoiler: Sam pushed Douglas to his death long ago.) But, with Douglas’ daughter, Diana, threatening Sam’s peace, and new operative Zinnia McKenna (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) promising to aid Sam’s mission, there are surely plenty of secrets waiting to be revealed.
