NBC’s latest entry in the mockumentary-style sitcom genre, “Stumble,” draws its inspiration from Netflix’s “Cheer” documentary, with Liz and Jeff Astrof creating a series that showcases the secret world of cheer competitions (with a silly twist, of course). Monica Aldama, retired cheerleading coach and star of the hit documentary, serves as executive producer, bringing an added layer of authenticity to the comedy. The series debuted on Nov. 7, 2025, as part of the network’s Friday night comedy block alongside “Happy’s Place,” starring Reba McEntire. Jenn Lyon leads “Stumble,” with Taran Killam, Ryan Pinkston, Jarrett Austin Brown, Anissa Borrego, Arianna Davis, Taylor Dunbar, and Georgie Murphy also starring. Here’s everything you need to know about the new series.

What is “Stumble” about?

“Stumble” follows Courteney Potter (Lyon), as she brings her cheerleading knowledge to a junior college in need of serious help. Despite being one of the winningest cheer coaches in history, Courteney gets fired from her role at Sammy Davis Sr. Junior College in the fictional Wichita Flats, Texas, after enjoying celebratory drinks with her team. While her husband, Boone (Killam), encourages her to take some time to rest and regroup, Courteney cannot help but pursue her 15th championship win, as she longs to beat her former cheer coach’s record out of revenge. With Tammy Istiny (Kristin Chenoweth), Courteney’s old assistant coach (and new rival), leading her former squad, Courteney takes a coaching job at Headleston Junior College in Oklahoma so she can help its practically non-existent, ragtag team qualify for and win the upcoming Daytona cheerleading championships.

Who are the casting directors for “Stumble”?

Juel Bestrop (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”), Tara Feldstein (“Cobra Kai”), and Chase Paris (“Peacemaker”) are the main casting directors behind “Stumble” Season 1. Paris told us being based in Atlanta has quite a few advantages, since the market isn’t yet as saturated as New York City or Los Angeles. “We’ve launched some careers completely from nothing simply because the opportunity was in their backyard, whereas before, you actually had to move to New York or L.A. to get those opportunities,” he shared.

“And if you’ve made the move from L.A. to Atlanta and you’re looking to get into the acting scene, it can’t hurt to make your name known. The very first thing is to reach out to all the agents you know. The local agents…they’re looking for brand-new talent. Not discovered talent,” Paris added.
