Tyler Perry’s multiyear creative partnership with Netflix will soon include his first political comedy for the streaming service. “She the People” is a new series that stars Perry regulars Terri J. Vaughn and Jo Marie Payton, as well as newcomers Jade Novah, Drew Olivia Tillman, Tré Boyd, and Dyon Brooks.

Perry also enlisted Keisha Lance Bottoms, the former mayor of Atlanta and special adviser to President Joe Biden, to serve as executive producer for the new series. Bottoms, who’s reportedly set to announce a run for Georgia’s governorship, is producing alongside Niya Palmer and Vaughn. While Netflix hasn’t announced a release date, the streamer does note that “She the People” will make its debut in 2025.

What is Tyler Perry’s “She the People” about?

“She the People” follows Antoinette Dunkerson (Vaughn) in her campaign for lieutenant governor. However, the real fun doesn’t begin until she gets elected, as she must contend with a condescending, sexist boss (aka the governor) while also managing a family that’s not yet used to being in the public eye.

Who is the casting director for Tyler Perry’s “She the People”?

While there’s no named casting director tied to the project, Perry often partners with Rhavynn Drummer. She’s helped cast other popular Perry titles, including “Sistas,” “The Oval” and “The Haves and the Have Nots.” Here’s how the resident CD for Tyler Perry Studios finds talent.
