Olivia Wilde-Helmed Sony-Marvel Movie
After her successful directorial debut with “Booksmart” and another major project on the way, Olivia Wilde is climbing to greater heights and will spin her next web at Sony. Reported earlier this week, Olivia Wilde has signed a deal with the studio to develop and direct a female-centric Marvel movie. Sony and Marvel are keeping mum, but there has been speculation in recent months that Sony is developing a story centered on Spider-Woman. Wilde will reteam with “Booksmart” writer Katie Silberman and Amy Pascal producing. This is the second female-centric Sony-Marvel film announced in recent months, following the news that S.J. Clarkson would develop the studio’s first female-centric movie from their catalog of Marvel characters; there is still no confirmation of what that story will be. Wilde and Silberman worked with casting director Allison Jones on “Booksmart,” but Sony-Marvel movies have typically seen work from a variety of casting directors and Jones tend to work almost exclusively in comedy.
“Kraven the Hunter”
Another Sony-Marvel feature is also securing a director. According to Deadline, J.C. Chandor is in talks to direct the in-development “Kraven the Hunter.” Art Marcum and Matt Holloway penned the script, which will presumably revolve, like the comics, around Sergei Kravinoff, aka Kraven the Hunter, one of Spider-Man’s best known and most formidable enemies. Sony is, once again, keeping quiet about the film and about Chandor’s hiring, but if the deal goes through, this would be Chandor’s first major studio tentpole. He is best known for his work on “Margin Call,” “A Most Violent Year,” and most recently “Triple Frontier.” He most regularly works with Telsey + Company on his projects.
“How to Be Successful Without Hurting Men’s Feelings”
TikTok superstar and Trump mimic Sarah Cooper will reportedly put her skills to the test at CBS. The comedian is developing a single-camera comedy at the network inspired by her book “How to Be Successful Without Hurting Men’s Feelings.” Cooper will co-write and executive produce the potential series alongside showrunner Cindy Chupack (“Sex and the City,” “Modern Family”). It will reportedly follow “three women at different stages in their careers at a male-dominated company as they help each other navigate modern gender politics in their careers and in their personal lives.” No further news has been announced.
