Welcome to Rumorville! Here you can learn about casting news that’s about to break in Hollywood. These speculations might be only rumors, but that doesn’t mean you can’t follow the trail all the way to the audition room.

“Superman” DC Movie
We haven’t seen the last of Superman, and we also maybe haven’t seen the last of Henry Cavill as Superman. The “Man of Steel” actor is reportedly in talks to return as Clark Kent in an upcoming DC Comics-Warner Bros. movie. This echoes a recent interview with Cavill where he revealed the role “is still [his]” and he had not given it up. The rumored project doesn’t appear to be a standalone and will seemingly be a cameo in another big-budget blockbuster. At this time, neither Warner Bros. or Cavill are commenting on what that project may be (or if it actually exists), so keep an eye out on any movement from either party there. Kristy Carlson and Lora Kennedy were the casting team behind “Man of Steel,” “Batman v Superman,” and “Justice League”—they will probably return if this new project takes off.

“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” Series
First reported by Variety, Amazon is developing a series centered on Lisbeth Salander and Stieg Larsson’s Millenium books, including “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.” The project will reportedly not be a sequel or a continuation but a modern adaptation that drops Salander in today’s world with a new setting, new characters, and a new story. There is no word yet on the series’ creative team or lead actor, especially as Salander has been portrayed by many different actors on screen, including Noomi Rapace, Rooney Mara, and Claire Foy. However, if you’re looking for something to fuel the casting fire, lead executive producer Andy Harries is also attached to Foy’s former project “The Crown.”

Safdie Brothers Deal
After their critically acclaimed awards contender “Uncut Gems,” the world wants more from the Safdie Brothers, and HBO is set to give it to them. The filmmakers’ Elara Pictures has struck a first-look deal with the cabler and A24. Elara also consists of long-time collaborators Sebastian Bear-McClard and Ronald Bronstein, and Dani Bernfeld will also join the team to produce new projects. A24, which produced both “Uncut Gems” and “Good Time,” will executive produce all projects under the two-year deal. Should anything be produced under the deal, it will be the Safdie Brothers’ first work for television. They regularly work with Jennifer Venditti, including on last year’s hit “Uncut Gems”—read about how she cast the feature here—but she is less involved in television casting. However, Francine Maisler, who also worked on “Uncut Gems” and also works in television, could very likely see work in this deal.

“The Forbidden Game”
Greg Berlanti is continuing to expand his YA catalog with his latest acquisition. The producer-filmmaker and Warner Bros. Television have bought the rights to the “Forbidden Game” novel trilogy to adapt as a TV series. Written by LJ Smith (also the author of “The Vampire Diaries” novels), the horror trilogy centers on a girl named Jenny and her six friends who enter a Jumanji-like game that drops them into different shadow worlds to fight off their worst nightmares, or die and have their souls forever imprisoned. WBTV has so far adapted both Smith’s “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Secret Circle” for the small screen, so this continues a long and fruitful collaboration for them. No creative team has been announced at this time as it is still early in development, but Greg Orson and Lesli Gelles-Raymond, the team behind WBTV’s current “Legacies,” were the casting directors for both previous WBTV-Smith collaborations.
