“Young Rock”
Can you smell what the Rock is cooking up on NBC this fall? The professional wrestler-turned-superstar actor is taking his big life to the small screen with a straight-to-series order for the network. “Young Rock” will track the life of Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson throughout his most formidable years and moments. The story will start with his life as a young boy training to take on the family wrestling legacy from his father, Rocky Johnson, and his grandfather “High Chief” Peter Maivia. The project will also feature the present-day Dwayne Johnson, who will serve as a catalyst for the weekly stories. The series is currently without any official cast members, though Johnson has been mentioned multiple times as a centerpiece for the upcoming show. Colloff/Nicolo Casting is still searching for talent. Production on the semiautobiographical coming-of-age story begins shooting later this year in an unknown location.
“La Brea”
Sinkholes, the underground cavities that have the ability to give way, never fail to make the national news. The dangerous, spontaneous, and sometimes deadly holes can swallow up just about anything in their path—but where exactly do the people, cars, and buildings go? NBC thinks it has an answer. When a large sinkhole opens up in Los Angeles, it takes victims to a world where prehistoric creatures still roam the Earth. The survivors struggle to adapt to their new surroundings while their families try to save them from the other side. Lowry-Johnson/Goldstein Casting is finding actors to fill the currently empty cast list. Production will most likely kick off in the spring in Vancouver, British Columbia.
“Walker”
The man who sparked a thousand memes is about to get his holster back. The ’90s and early 2000s series and pop culture punching bag “Walker, Texas Ranger” is getting a reboot, this time sans Chuck Norris. The CW has greenlit the project that will put a fresh twist on the iconic series. It will follow a man who returns home to his life and family after being undercover for two years. As he tries to rekindle a relationship with his children and find answers about his wife’s death, he’s paired with one of the first female Texas Rangers. Casting director Susan Vash has already attached longtime CW alum Jared Padalecki to the lead role. While remaining characters are still being cast, the project is preparing to shoot in April. True to the Texas Ranger spirit, the pilot will film in Austin.
