Debuting Jan. 6, 2026, on Fox (alongside the return of the network’s hit medical drama “Doc”), “Best Medicine” is an adaptation of the long-running British ITV series “Doc Martin,” created by Dominic Minghella. The American series stars Josh Charles as Dr. Martin Best, along with Abigail Spencer (“Timeless”), Josh Segarra (“Abbott Elementary”), Annie Potts (“Young Sheldon”), Cree (“Big Sky”), and Didi Conn (“Harlan Coben’s Shelter”). Even the original Doc Martin, actor Martin Clunes, has joined the show in a recurring role, playing Dr. Robert Best—Martin’s father.

What is “Best Medicine” about?

“Best Medicine” follows renowned surgeon Dr. Martin Best (Charles) as he abandons his Boston career to become a general practitioner in the East Coast fishing village where he spent his summers as a kid. And while the town’s new doctor just wants to be left alone, his patients keep roping him into their chaos. Even his poor bedside manner proves to be no match for their shenanigans. However, his attitude serves as a facade that masks the real reasons he turned his life upside down in the first place.

Who is the casting director for “Best Medicine”?

HBG Casting has led the charge for casting the series’ background actors. According to a post from the Hudson Valley Film Commission Actors and Crew Facebook page, HBG started searching for extras in the upstate New York area in July 2025. The team was specifically seeking “small-town types, nosy neighbors, friends, and fishing village looks” of any background or ethnicity—no acting experience required.

“Best Medicine” clearly loves to bring in local background talent. Luckily, we have all the tools you’ll need to get started as an extra:
