Over two decades after Ice Cube’s 2002 hit comedy film “Barbershop,” the iconic Chicago shop is opening its doors to a new generation in Prime Video’s highly anticipated series continuation. The series stars Jermaine Fowler (“Coming 2 America”) as Travis “Trav” Porter, a young barber striving to keep his grandfather’s legacy alive behind the chair. What is “Barbershop” about?

“Barbershop” follows Fowler’s Trav as he takes over his grandfather’s station at Calvin’s (Ice Cube) Chicago shop to honor his family’s roots. According to the official logline, the barbers are new, but the shop remains lively as ever.

The series continues the “Barbershop” universe introduced in the original 2002 film, which earned more than $77 million worldwide and launched a franchise that expanded with “Barbershop 2: Back in Business” (2004), the Queen Latifah–led “Beauty Shop” (2005), and “Barbershop: The Next Cut” (2016). Together, the films have grossed more than $200 million worldwide.

Marshall Todd (“Woke”), who co-wrote the original “Barbershop” film, is writing and executive producing the series, with Max Searle (“Only Murders in the Building”) acting as co-showrunner and executive producer. Kevin Hart is also executive producing.
