BookTok’s romantasy reign is showing no signs of slowing down, and Lauren Roberts’ bestselling YA phenomenon “Powerless” is officially heading to the small screen. Amazon MGM Studios is adapting Roberts’ hit trilogy, which includes “Powerless,” “Reckless,” and “Fearless,” into a highly anticipated TV series, with the debut season focusing entirely on the high-stakes events of the first book.
To bring the ruthless kingdom of Ilya to life, the studio has assembled an impressive creative lineup: “Anyone but You” director Will Gluck is set to direct and produce, while Daphne Ferraro (“Maxton Hall”) will lead the writing team. Best of all for loyal fans, Roberts herself is on board as an executive producer to help guide the transition of her world from page to screen.
The series is in early script development, but casting opportunities are bound to surface in the near future. To keep you ahead of the curve, we have rounded up all the details you need to know about the new series. Here is your ultimate guide to getting cast on the “Powerless” adaptation, along with where you can find similar casting opportunities.

Roberts’ “Powerless” series is set in the kingdom of Ilya, where the Elites rule with extraordinary powers and those without powers are hunted. Paedyn Gray, a powerless Ordinary, survives as a thief in the slums while hiding from a kingdom that hunts people like her. After she unexpectedly saves the life of Prince Kai, the king’s second son and designated hunter of Ordinaries, Paedyn is forced into the Purging Trials, a brutal competition that promises glory, riches, and a spotlight she has spent her life trying to avoid.
Casting has not been announced for “Powerless” just yet.
Ferraro will serve as creator, showrunner, and executive producer. Ferraro was previously head writer on the first season of “Maxton Hall,” Amazon MGM Studios’ biggest international original series to date. She was also a writer on Season 2 of Netflix’s “Dark” and wrote the screenplay for Katja von Garnier’s feature film “Fly.”
Ferraro will executive produce alongside Gluck, Madison Jones, and Jacqueline Monetta, who executive produce via Olive Bridge; Alex Black, Jon Rosenberg, and Natalie Sellers, who executive produce via Lyrical Media; and Roberts.
Olive Bridge’s recent credits include the hit feature comedy “Anyone but You,” Netflix’s adult animated comedy “Chicago Party Aunt,” and Hulu’s “Woke.” Lyrical Media and Olive Bridge acquired the rights to Roberts’ books last fall.
