Welcome to Rumorville! Here you can learn about casting news that’s about to break in Hollywood. These speculations might be only rumors, but that doesn’t mean you can’t follow the trail all the way to the audition room.

“Clue”
It’s out with Bateman and in with Bobin—reportedly. “Muppets” director James Bobin is reportedly in early talks to direct the upcoming remake of “Clue,” produced by and starring Ryan Reynolds. Jason Bateman was originally supposed to helm the project, but with his busy directing and acting schedule, particularly Netflix’s “Ozark,” the multihyphenate had to withdraw. (He is still listed as a cast member, however, so it is unclear if he will still appear in the film or not.) As previously reported, “Deadpool” writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are writing the script, so while no casting director has been made public for “Clue,” don’t be surprised if one of the “Deadpool” casting directors, Ronna Kress and Mary Vernieu, becomes attached.

“Independence Day 3”
Is it time for “Independence Day” to resurge again? During a recent interview with Cinema Blend, director Roland Emmerich revealed that he’s researched an idea for a third potential “Independence Day” movie. The filmmaker has had hopes about getting the franchise back on track for a while, but with the Disney-Fox merger, he’s already expressed his disappointment over Fox’s “disappearance.” Still, the future is uncertain, but Emmerich is hopeful that the franchise could continue with the newly branded 20th Century Studios, especially considering how much Disney loves a good franchise. He just may have to wait a while: it took 20 years for the first sequel, “Independence Day: Resurgence,” in 2016. Jo Edna Boldin and John Papsidera were the casting directors for that film, so if the third installment comes within the decade, Papsidera could return and if production returns to the New Mexico area, Boldin could, too.

“Torn From the Headlines” and “Off the Record”
Extra, extra: The New York Post, which is filled with the kind of melodrama television producers dream of, is reportedly teaming up with Investigation Discovery for a pair of new projects: “Torn From the Headlines” and “Off the Record.” According to Variety, “Torn From the Headlines” will take viewers behind the headlines of NYC’s darkest crimes, while “Off the Record” will focus on recent crimes and scandals and will appear online only through the network’s mobile app, IDGO. While the shows are set in stone and ready to premiere in March, their formatting plans aren’t quite clear yet, though it seems like they will mainly be comprised of interviews and archival footage. Still, Investigation Discovery regularly seeks actors for re-enactments on its other programs, including “Shattered,” “Evil Lives Here,” and others—expect the New York Post shows to follow the same format and be seeking talent soon!
