The Beatles are coming to the big screen as you’ve never seen them before. While the Fab Four have had a lot of screen time in the past, Sam Mendes (“American Beauty,” “1917,” “Skyfall”) is putting a new spin on their story. In what the director is calling the “first bingeable theatrical experience,” he will make not one but four movies about the iconic rock group, with each focused on one band member.
For those wanting to learn more, we’ve got you covered. Here’s everything we know about Mendes’ Beatles films, including casting announcements.

According to Deadline, the logline for the four-part biopic, officially titled “The Beatles—A Four-Film Cinematic Event,” says: “Each man has his own story, but together they are legendary.” The movies will follow an interconnected story, from the band’s origins in Liverpool to their heyday at the center of pop culture. Each installment will be presented from one band member’s point of view.
“There had to be a way to tell the epic story for a new generation,” Mendes told the audience at CinemaCon. “I can assure you there is still plenty left to explore, and I think we found a way to do that.”
Mendes will helm the films and also produce; Pippa Harris and Julie Pastor will produce for Neal Street, and Alexandra Derbyshire will produce for Sony Pictures.
Variety also reports that “Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the families of the late John Lennon and George Harrison have granted full life story and music rights for the scripted films.”
At CinemaCon, Mendes announced the actors who will portray the legendary musicians: Harris Dickinson (“Babygirl,” “The Iron Claw”) as John Lennon, Paul Mescal (“Gladiator II,” “Normal People”) as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn (“A Quiet Place: Day One,” “Stranger Things”) as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan (“Saltburn,” “The Banshees of Inisherin”) as Ringo Starr. No additional cast members have been announced at this time.
While the four band members have been cast, there are plenty of other characters in this story, and Mendes will undoubtedly need many actors. Casting calls will likely be rolling out shortly, so keep an eye on our main casting page. And remember, the best way to get an audition for a high-profile project like “The Beatles—A Four-Film Cinematic Event” is by having an agent.
