Airing on NBC every Monday at 10 p.m. ET, “Brilliant Minds” derives its inspiration from the works of the pioneering neurological expert Dr. Oliver Sacks. Rooted in Sacks’ prolific books “The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat” and “An Anthropologist on Mars,” the medical drama draws on countless case studies as it brings these real-life success stories into the fictional world of Bronx General Hospital. Initially developed for Fox, the series later moved to NBC, with creator, writer, and showrunner Michael Grassi at the helm. Season 2 will return from its holiday hiatus on Jan. 5, 2026. Here’s everything we know about “Brilliant Minds.”

What is “Brilliant Minds” about?

Despite being shot primarily in Canada, “Brilliant Minds” takes place at Bronx General Hospital in NYC, following Dr. Oliver Wolf (Zachary Quinto)—named in honor of Dr. Oliver Sacks—as he leads a group of interns in the neurology department. While the team tackles some mind-boggling cases, there’s more to Dr. Wolf’s story, as he must endure his own neurological issues. Dr. Wolf has prosopagnosia, otherwise known as face blindness, which can make it hard for him to recognize his family, his patients, and his own face. But even with this challenge weighing heavily, the team’s attending physician helps them solve medical mystery after medical mystery, shining a light on the brilliance of the late Dr. Sacks and his astonishing work.
