Anyone who’s seen “Bottoms” or “Shiva Baby” knows Rachel Sennott is irreverent, witty, and laugh-out-loud funny. And thanks to HBO, she’s now front and center on her own series, “I Love LA.” The show, which Sennott stars in, writes, directs, and executive produces, landed a series order in September 2024 after its pilot order in March. It features a breakout ensemble, including Odessa A’zion, Jordan Firstman, and True Whitaker. TV veteran Leighton Meester and newcomer Quenlin Blackwell also guest-starred on the pilot, according to Variety. Now, as the comedy—which premiered on Nov. 2, 2025—unfolds every Sunday night, its first eight episodes are sure to hook those who’ve been looking to fill the void “Girls” left years ago. What is “I Love LA” about?

According to HBO’s press release, “I Love LA” follows a codependent group of friends who reunite and navigate how time apart, personal ambition, and new relationships have shifted their dynamic. Sennott leads the cast as Maia, but the show operates as a true ensemble comedy centered around this evolving friend group. Along with the aforementioned cast members, viewers can expect to see Josh Hutcherson (“The Hunger Games”), who plays Dylan, Sennott’s onscreen boyfriend, as well as guest stars like Elijah Wood, Josh Brener, and Colin Woodell.

Who is the casting director for “I Love LA”?

Bret Howe and Mary Vernieu (“Knives Out,” “Poker Face”) are the main casting directors behind “I Love LA.” Vernieu spoke with Backstage, revealing what it really takes to impress the prolific A-list CD.

As previously noted, Sennott serves as series creator, star, writer, and executive producer. Emma Barrie (“Barry”), Aida Rodgers (“Barry,” “True Detective”), and Lorene Scafaria (“Hustlers”)—who directed the pilot—are also EPs. Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO and Max comedy programming, said in a press release, “Rachel is as hilarious as she is charming. With Lorene and Emma, she has captured the comedy and beauty that happens when friendships collide with our best-laid plans. We’re thrilled to continue collaborating with this talented team and exquisite cast.”
