TV’s biggest night has arrived! The winners of the 78th annual Emmy Awards were announced live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 14th. This year’s ceremony was hosted by “Law & Order: SVU” legend Mariska Hargitay, herself a four-time Emmy winner.
Matthew Rhys made TV history, winning a lead actor Emmy in both the limited series and comedy categories for "The Beast in Me" and "Widow's Bay," respectively. Overall, it was a tremendous debut Emmys night for "Widow's Bay," which also won outstanding comedy series, supporting actress in a comedy for Kate O'Flynn, supporting actor in a comedy for Stephen Root, and both writing and directing for a comedy.
"The Pitt" came away with the outstanding drama series win, along with an Emmy for Noah Wyle in best lead actor in a drama. Jean Smart ended "Hacks" on a high note with a win for lead actress in a comedy, the legend's eighth career win—tied with Cloris Leachman and Julia Louis-Dreyfus for most for any single performer.
