Easton Prep is about to find out what happens when a new girl takes the helm. In Netflix’s “Crew Girl,” Miku Martineau (“Bet”) stars as Teagan Tao, an outsider thrust into the hypercompetitive world of high school rowing. It’s a sport ruled by deep rivalries and intense egos—but as Teagan steps up to steer the boys’ varsity boat, she proves she’s the exact leader they need to win.
The eight-episode YA drama premieres Sept. 10 and also stars Jessica Paré (“Mad Men”), Sam Braun (“Time Cut,” “Bad Genius”), Kyle Clark (“Riverdale”), and Thomas Cadrot (“Scream VI”).

At 16, Teagan Tao (Martineau) already knows she belongs on the water. But when her father’s scandal hits, her life and rowing dreams are suddenly thrown off course.
Teagan and her mother move to the East Coast, leaving their old life behind. She enrolls at Easton Prep, determined to row again. But there’s one problem: Easton doesn’t have a girls’ rowing team.
Instead, Teagan lands in the coxswain seat of the school’s chaotic boys’ varsity crew. Fiercely independent, she has to figure out how to lead a team that barely works together, all while dealing with a cocky captain, an overlooked local rower, and a love triangle unfolding right inside her boat.
“Every race tries to kill you, and the fact that you survive to the end is incredible. It’s just such a great sport,” showrunner Vivian Lin (“Popularity Papers,” “SkyMed”) told What’s on Netflix about the intensity of rowing. “Everyone’s personality gets heightened, everybody’s tensions get heightened, and it just felt like a really great world to explore within this teen drama.” “Bet” creator Simon Barry directs the premiere.

On learning how to row, Martineau said, “I was doing night shoots all week, but then on the weekend it was my only free time, so I would have to get up to do rowing training on a lake. But I had such a blast. I wish people could see maybe a little bit more of the behind-the-scenes of not just learning how to row but mixing in rowing with the technicalities of filming it.”

J.J. Ogilvy of Cossey/Ogilvy Casting cast the series. Her credits include “Superman & Lois,” “The Good Doctor,” and “Riverdale.”
