Be in a play at London’s VAULT Festival Festival
Theatre company Outer Gaea are casting new play The Ballerina ahead of a run at VAULT Festival in London’s Waterloo. The play follows a British diplomat accused of overthrowing a foreign government fighting back with typical wit and humour against a master interrogator. The production explores Britain’s colonial history and the impact of policy around the world. Here’s a breakdown of the roles casting:
Aimee-Oshun Muamba is female, playing age 18–35 and black. She’s intelligent and gentle, but with the potential to be fierce. The character speaks her country’s native language as well as French and English, in which she’s fluent. Ensemble role Operator/ Ethiopian Jew is male, playing age 18–30 and black. It’s a physically demanding role that requires an actor with experience in dance and stage combat, and the team are seeking actors with a height of 5’8” and above. Student short Sea Lion is a coming-of-age story about Patrick, a 15-year-old boy who forms an unlikely friendship with a crashed German pilot during the second world war. This graduate project from final year film students is casting nationwide for a host of roles, ahead of production this spring. Here’s a breakdown:
Patrick is male, playing age 15–18 and white. Quiet and compassionate, he’s isolated after moving from home to live with his cold uncle. When he discovers an injured German pilot, he faces the most difficult decision of his life.
Mary is female, playing age 17–19 and white. She’s a student nurse, caring for soldiers who have been sent home. She’s close with her family but is distant from her cousin Patrick after he uses Mary’s secret boyfriend against her. However, the pair bond as they work together to save the German pilot. Uncle Jack is male, playing age 43–53 and white. A first world war veteran, he’s embittered, cold, and dislikes compassion or sensitivity. Aunt Margaret is female, playing age 38–47 and white. Bubbly, intelligent, and loyal, she’s a good mother who cares for her nephew. Daniel is male, playing age 12–15 and white. Mary’s younger brother, he’s mischievous but looks up to his dad.
