Do you have what it takes to build a real estate empire without going bankrupt or landing in jail? Netflix is turning the classic board game “Monopoly” into a reality competition series, and casting is officially underway. The show will premiere in fall 2027 with 12 contestants competing for a $2 million prize.
The board game debuted in 1935 and has sold more than 275 million copies worldwide, according to Hasbro. The series joins Netflix’s growing lineup of unscripted adaptations, including “Wonka’s The Golden Ticket,” based on Roald Dahl’s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” which premieres Sept. 23.
For those hoping to join “Monopoly,” casting is currently underway. Here’s what we know and how you can apply.

Per Netflix, “Monopoly” will place contestants inside a life-size Monopoly Town Square, where they’ll have the opportunity to earn money, buy properties, negotiate deals, and hopefully stay out of jail. One by one, bankrupt players will be eliminated while others build their empire—until the last remaining person takes the entire $2 million prize. (No word if winning second prize in a beauty contest will still earn $10.)
Netflix is currently casting the series, so no contestants have been announced yet.
- Twelve players will be selected
- Contestants will compete on a life-size Monopoly board
- Players will need to use strategy, negotiation, alliance-building, and dealmaking
- The winner will receive $2 million
“Monopoly” is produced by Studio Lambert in partnership with Hasbro Entertainment. Studio Lambert is also behind Netflix’s reality competition series “Squid Game: The Challenge” and “The Circle.”
Nia Yemoh, Tim Harcourt, Jack Burgess, Stephen Lambert, and Kim Murphy serve as executive producers for Studio Lambert. Gabriel Marano and Zachary Edwin executive produce for Hasbro Entertainment.
Prospective contestants can visit the show’s casting website to learn more and submit an application.
