How to Get Cast on ‘The Lowdown’

FX’s noir crime drama “The Lowdown” is the latest project from Oklahoma-born filmmaker Sterlin Harjo (“Reservation Dogs,” “Rez Ball”). The eight-episode series stars Academy Award nominee Ethan Hawke (“Training Day,” “Dead Poets Society”) as a ruthless citizen journalist in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Shot entirely on location in Oklahoma, “The Lowdown” also features Tulsa native Tim Blake Nelson (“The Ballad of Buster Scruggs”). 

Alongside series creator Harjo, executive producers include Hawke, his wife Ryan Hawke (“The Last Movie Stars”), and Garret Basch (“Reservation Dogs,” “What We Do in the Shadows”). Dylan Brodie, Alex Orr, Jeffrey Pinto-Lobo, and Kaitlin Waldron are also producing.

What is “The Lowdown” about?

As described by FX, the story follows Lee Raybon (Hawke), a “self-proclaimed Tulsa ‘truthstorian’ ” obsessed with uncovering the city’s darkest secrets, despite the personal cost. However, one of his investigations turns deadly, resulting in the apparent suicide of Dale Washberg (Nelson), a member of the powerful Washberg family and the subject of Raybon’s latest exposé. As Raybon digs deeper, he uncovers even more corruption, forcing him to weigh the risks of continuing the investigation against his responsibilities as a father to his 14-year-old daughter, Francis (Ryan Kiera Armstrong).
