Lily Collins will play Audrey Hepburn in a new film about the making of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” The “Emily in Paris” star, who will also serve as a producer on the upcoming movie, shared on Instagram that the project has been in the works for nearly a decade. “It’s with almost 10 years of development and a lifetime of admiration and adoration for Audrey that I’m finally able to share this,” she wrote. “Honored and ecstatic don’t begin to express how I feel…”

Most details about the project remain up in the air, including an official title, a possible release date, or who will direct. But it’s confirmed that “Dickinson” creator Alena Smith is writing the screenplay. If this exciting announcement already has you humming the tune of “Moon River,” here’s everything we know so far about the new “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” film and its ties to the beloved original.

What is Lily Collins’ “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” film about?

The upcoming film isn’t a direct remake of the original “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” Instead, it will explore the making of the 1961 classic, giving a fictionalized, behind-the-scenes look at the creative clashes and the drama that shaped the film. (One example: During production of the original movie, Truman Capote, who wrote the source material inspiring the film, initially wanted Marilyn Monroe to star in the leading role, not Hepburn.) The story is adapted from Sam Wasson’s book Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M.: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and the Dawn of the Modern Woman, which shares on-set stories and insider accounts from the making of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”

The original “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” film was based on Capote’s 1958 novella about an eccentric young socialite named Holly Golightly (Hepburn) living on her own in New York City.

Who is in the cast of Lily Collins’ “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” film?

Collins is the only confirmed cast member so far. While the full character lineup hasn’t been revealed, the story could likely feature the key roles of Capote, original “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” director Blake Edwards, Oscar-winning costume designer Edith Head, and George Peppard, who played Holly’s neighbor Paul Varjak.

Who is developing Lily Collins’ “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” film?

Collins and husband Charlie McDowell are producing via her company, Case Study Films, with Alex Orlovsky and Scott LaStaiti. Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody, and Justin Wilkes will produce for Imagine Entertainment. Additional EPs include Marc Gilbar, Sam Wasson, Brandon Millan, Michael Shamberg, and Joyce Choi.
