Georgia has become a vital filmmaking hub for Hollywood, earning the nickname “Y’allywood” for how many productions set up shop there each year, thanks to diverse environments and generous tax incentives. Whether a project wants to stage an epic showdown in something like the Russo brothers’ “Avengers: Endgame” or the creeping horror of suburbia in a film like Zach Cregger’s “Weapons,” the Georgia filmmaking scene continues to thrive with new studios constantly popping up to accommodate the influx of new movies, TV shows, and more. Here are five worth keeping on your radar.

Tyler Perry Studios

Tyler Perry has made himself synonymous with Georgia filmmaking. His massive, 300-acre studio at the former Fort McPherson has made itself home to not only Perry’s vast array of productions, including “Madea’s Family Reunion” and “House of Payne,” but also game shows like “Family Feud” and the Marvel series “Hawkeye.” With sets that include a full-on White House (useful for the show “The Oval”) as well as smaller venues, any production coming to Georgia must consider Tyler Perry Studios.

Trilith Studios

Originally known as Pinewood Atlanta Studios, some of Hollywood’s biggest productions come to film on this 700-acre site, which includes a 400-acre backlot and 32 soundstages. This has allowed Trilith to become almost the de facto home of Marvel Studios and other superhero productions like James Gunn’s “Superman,” along with other blockbuster-sized works like “Haunted Mansion,” “The Electric State,” and “The Tomorrow War.” Trilith is also home to the Prysm Stage, a virtual production volume like the ones used in shows like “The Mandalorian” to handle real-time adjustments to CGI settings.

Assembly Atlanta

Located in Doraville, Georgia, on the edge of the metro Atlanta perimeter, Assembly Atlanta offers 19 soundstages, four filmable building facades, and plenty of support space for greenrooms, basecamps, etc. While Assembly is a relatively newer studio, it offers a vast array of services close to the heart of the city and has played host to such productions at the TV series “Ted” and the new CBS daytime soap opera “Beyond the Gates.”

Shadowbox Studios

Shadowbox offers great flexibility in its offerings across nine stages and a three-acre backlot. Less than 10 miles away from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Shadowbox allows companies plenty of range in the kinds of productions they wish to pursue. Titles shot at the facility include comedies like “Blockers” and “The Spy Who Dumped Me,” huge blockbusters like “Jumanji: The Next Level” and “Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” and TV series like “Heels” and “Lovecraft Country.”

Cinelease Studios

Cinelease offers facilities across the United States and Canada, but it’s set up quite a bit of space across Georgia. The studio is in eight locations across the state, including in Decatur, Conyers, Norcross, and Covington. Because one of the major benefits of filming in Georgia is the diverse environment, there’s a lot of upside to working with a studio that can offer you stage space closer to your exteriors, which can cut down on travel time. There’s plenty of things to love about Atlanta, but getting stuck in traffic isn’t one of them.
